PASSIONS is moving a lot faster than DAYS, actually. It's like the two soaps switched places with one another. James E. Reilly's "excuse" for that is that when he was growing up, he used to see a lot of slow-moving storylines on soaps. The reason for that was to buy more time to draw more characters into the storylines who could really have big impacts on them. That way, when the stories were finally resolved, they meant bigger payoffs.
Remember the DAYS baby switch from 2000 to 2002? It pulled in not just Bo, Hope, Abe, and Lexie, but it pulled in a whole lot of other characters -- Shawn, Belle, Jan, Philip, Brady, Chloe, Celeste, Craig, Nancy, Jack, Jennifer, Colin, Glen, Barb, Brandon, and a few assorted others that included the Bradys and Hortons. And when the switch was finally figured out, the payoff was oh-so-good. Granted, I wasn't watching DAYS until just after Jan left town, but it was still pretty good, according to my mother.
So that's why some soaps -- namely, DAYS, PASSIONS, and AMC and OLTL, during the crossover baby switch -- have slow-moving storylines -- for bigger payoffs in the end.

I've been watching since 95 and there have been some good things there, but at the same time there have been a lot of storylines that leave fans less than thrilled obviously. I quit watching Passions about a year ago and with Days I know it's a gradual process but sometimes too slow is just not enough to keep viewers interested. Honestly if Julie Pinson wasn't there and there wasn't the idea of Patrick/Billie I might not be nearly as interested as I am trying for right now

What made you quit watching PASSIONS, patrickbilliefan? The stories are going a lot faster now, and end a lot more quickly.
But I agree with you -- I'm now only interested in DAYS as long as a Patrick/Billie pairing is still possible.

I did not exactly where to post this subject but on SoaptownUSA, Amanda who wrote this weeks article on DOOL, she herself feels that a Billie/Patrick pairing, if JER takes that route, they will be the hottest couple to hit Salem this summer.
She would be so right.

Yes, this show will definitely be heated up then!

Patrick and Billie together are needed to heat up this show. Wonder if it could speed up too because we are in for this night to last another week.

When Reilly's involved, of course a day (and night) will last this long. He must want to note, in detail, every single event that warrants in one day before moving on to the next one.

All I got to say is I am glad real life doesn't move this slow. I know its a soap but in all my years being a soap fan I have often noticed they usually write about real life events or situations. Things that really happen you know like love triangles, murder mysteries, social topics stuff like that that make it interesting to watch. This two week long crap for one day is just getting to be too much.

I think this day has lasted longer than two weeks. A lot longer.

I was reading and something doesn't seem right to me. Ok according to spoilers it seems this night is lasting through this Friday. Fake Jen had mentioned once that it was late. Ok if it is so late how are they going to have a party for Alice on Wednesday or Thursday's show? I love Grandma Horton but at this time of night shouldn't she be in bed?

As you both mentioned before 1 day lasts forever. Remember how New Year's became Valentine's day in the blink of an eye? Days has no concept of time and while in soaps that happens...it's to the extreme on Days.

It's not the show that has no concept of time. It's Reilly that doesn't have concept of time.

I have to agree with both of you Dale and admin. Yeah isn't it amazing how close New Years and Valentines Day are these days. And yes But you have to realize not only does Reilly not have a time concept he doesn't have a "what fans want" concept either.
